Established in 1935 by George R J Chenery - a stone mason by trade - our funeral home was historically located in Bancroft, moving to its present location in 1973. Shortly after the move, the business was taken over by George’s son, Ray Chenery, having spent the previous 20 years running the family company alongside his father. In its current incarnation - moving along in the spirit of a tradition begun by George all those years ago - the Chenery Funeral Services business is now managed by the late Mr & Mrs Chenery’s daughter, Dawn, and Son-in-Law, John. They take great privilege in extending the sterling reputation of our business, with both continuing to offer an excellent service with an added family touch. They are further supported by funeral director Paul Males, who joined the company in 1994, and is responsible for the everyday running of the office. His own son, Adam, joined the business full-time in March 2015 having been trained in all aspects of the funeral professions, including the arranging and conducting of funeral services. In our history, we have arranged several prestigious funerals, namely: Sir David Bowes-Lyon, the brother of the late Queen Mother, and Sir Henry Joseph Wood, a famous Conductor of the London Promenade Concert Orchestra. While acknowledging our own traditions and roots, Chenery Funeral Services has also adapted to keep up with the changing times; funerals can be arranged for all denominations and distance is never an obstruction. We can also arrange visits to the Rest Chapel according to each family’s individual need.
