Peter Gerald Hewitt

2nd Jul 1931 - 11th Jan 2021
89 years
In loving memory of Peter Gerald Hewitt who sadly passed away on 11th January 2021. Dad was born in Dagenham, the youngest of four children. His family moved to Romford when he was small and he lived almost all of his life in Collier Row. His National Service was as a Quartermaster’s Clerk in the Medical Corps, stationed near Münster. Dad’s career was largely spent in the building trade, from his apprenticeship as a carpenter, to housebuilding with his own firm, and progressing to Site Agent for major builders. He met Edna Wood at a dance in a Church Hall in Gidea Park. They courted for 3 years before they got married at The Good Shepherd Church in Collier Row on 8th March 1957. When he and mum retired he wanted to find a hobby they could share as a couple, so they took up bowls at Harold Hill Bowls Club. This occupied them nearly every day for the next two decades and they made many friends. Dad was positive and always ready to laugh. He didn’t like to argue with anyone and easily made friends. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and will be much missed by all. Service Date: Monday 8th Feb at 3:30pm Due to current conditions attendance is limited but there is a live webcast.
