When Irene Walker was born on 5 April 1936 in Darlington, Durham, her father, Thomas, was 25, and her mother, Hilda, was 22. She married Brian Causer on 29 November 1958 in her hometown. They had three children during their marriage. She died on 1 May 2006 in Darlington, Durham, at the age of 70.
