Bob Hitching

14th Nov 1950 - 16th Jul 2024
73 years
Robert “Scratch” Hitching, 73, died suddenly of a heart attack on July 16, 2024 in rural Hungary. Born to Louisa and Dennis Hitching in Bromley Kent, England, Bob was a self-professed rabble rouser. After he got religion, Bob joined his first wife, Barbara Hitching, in mission work, where they established a nonprofit that pioneered media in missions. After his divorce and remarriage, he took a hiatus where, among other things, he worked as a bug man, extinguishing the pests that all people detest. In the early 2000s, he returned to nonprofit work and ministered among the Bayash of Central Europe. Later in life, he scorned mainstream Protestantism and became an Episcopalian priest. He is survived by his children, Natasha Hitching AKA Soma, who shares his penchant for nonprofit work; Timothy Hitching AKA Victor David English, who has the same capacity to see ideas and potential everywhere; Galina Hitching, who inherited his love for jazz; and grandchild, Sidra Hitching, who has the Hitching ear. He also leaves behind an older brother, Roger Hitching of Bromley, and Cousin Elizabeth Lee-Visser of Australia, among others. Funeral arrangements are being made by his second family and will only be announced to those who wish to sign up for their ministry newsletter. His three natural born children, his first family, are requesting that any memorial donations be made to The Sidewalk Project, a homeless ministry in Los Angeles. “Water the earth with the tears of your joy and love those tears.” -Dostoevsky
