Originally established as John Grenfell and Sons by Peter’s Grandfather, Tom, Peter joined the family business and from the Ashington office, started to build strong relationships with the families he served. After the family business parted ways in 2004, Peter decided to establish his own funeral directors at his residence in Ashington, continuing to serve the many families he’d helped previously. 4 years later, in 2008, the decision for Peter to retire was taken, and so, wanting to keep the business in family hands, a fifth-generation run business based in Edinburgh, William Purves Funeral Directors was asked to take over. Local funeral director Dominic Appleby took on the day to day running of the firm and he was quickly followed by funeral director, John Kinghorn and administrators Ros Tanney and Moria Duzenli. The values instilled by Peter were maintained and the business continues to operate around the deeply-held values of integrity and respect, offering a high-level, professional service to the bereaved. In recent years, improvements to the services we offer have been made. We upgraded our fleet of vehicles to Mercedes Benz as well as opening a new office and chapel of rest in Bedlington.
