Joseph Geldart & Sons has a long history: founded in 1880, we are a fourth-generation family business with strong ties to the community. We pride ourselves in our ability to arrange both traditional and modern funerals, depending on families’ needs. We cover all faiths and can arrange humanist and eco-friendly funerals as needed. Our premises on Hopewell terrace includes a quiet Chapel of Rest, and we are happy to arrange viewings if you would like to visit your loved one. We are also associated with the British Institute of Embalmers, so you can be sure that your loved one will be professionally and sympathetically cared for. Our range of funeral transport combines the traditional with the contemporary. We have three horse-drawn hearses (reintroduced to the area by Joseph Geldart & Sons in 1991, after a 70 year absence), two of which date back over 100 years. They are drawn by two beautiful black Fresian horses. We also offer a vintage 1955 Austin hearse, a modern Mercedes hearse, and chauffeur-driven limousines on request.
