The best way to get in touch
E. A. Dodd & Son Funeral Directors are an independent, family owned company operating in Ottery St. Mary and its surrounding areas, alongside their older branch in Honiton. The funeral home in Ottery St. Mary opened in December 2016, and the premises has since undergone extensive modernisation in order to provide a spacious funeral home to serve the needs of bereaved families within the local community. We are members of the National Association of Funeral Directors and are recommended by the Good Funeral Guide. E. A. Dodd & Son was brought into A. G. Down of Bridport in 1999, after the original owners decided to sell their business. Like E. A. Dodd & Son, A. G. Down is an independent, family owned business established by Arthur Down after his return from World War II, and was sold to Eric Dunford in 1979. Eric, who was born in Bridport, was joined in the running of the business shortly after by his wife, Joyce, and later by Joyce’s son, Julian Hussey. Both Eric and Joyce have served as President of the Western Counties Area Federation of the National Association of Funeral Directors. Julian now runs the business alongside his wife, Karen, and incorporates funeral directors across Dorset and Devon. Julian and Karen were joined by Phil Horne and Jerry Parkhouse, funeral directors, in May 2010 and January 2012 respectively. As funeral directors, we will make all the funeral arrangements, as requested. We will guide you through all the options available so as to provide a completely individual service for your requirements. We offer a completely confidential service at all times. The premises in Ottery St. Mary enjoys a welcoming reception area, a private family room where relatives can discuss arrangements, a quiet waiting room area and chapel of rest, where you may view your loved one. This part of the funeral home can also be opened into one room and used for both religious and non-religious services. All of the building is disabled compliant and has ample client parking. Part of the refurbishment has also been to provide mortuary facilities so that all amenities are on the same site. We will arrange a religious service if you wish, with a local minister to take the service either in church, at one of our service rooms or at the crematorium or cemetery. We also have a network of non-religious, humanist and civil celebrants who can lead the service. We are able to offer service rooms for both religious and non-religious services in Seaton and Bridport. In Bridport, we are also able to offer the use of our adjacent dining room. This is a recent review published in the Good Funeral Guide: “All the feel of a family funeral director and all the hallmarks of an extremely well-run business with a very big heart. Funeral homes that are in tune with its community staffed by exceptionally kind and knowledgeable people you will feel comfortable with. They will treat you fairly — they are passionate about straight dealing. Their pricing structure is transparent and is posted on their website. They will not sting you for hidden extras."
